Hurontario LRT

The Hurontario LRT is one of the largest investments in transit for Peel Region. The Province of Ontario has committed $1.4 billion to support the project and Metrolinx will work with the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton to co-ordinate building and operating the line.

Metrolinx recognizes that its major infrastructure investments should also provide benefits for the communities in which it works, including employment, training, apprenticeship, local supplier and social procurement opportunities, where possible.  Metrolinx has therefore committed to include a community benefits program for the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (HuLRT) Line.

A signed copy of the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) Community Benefits Framework will be posted on the website as soon as it is signed by Metrolinx and the PCBN.

PROJECT UPDATES

Request for proposals closed for Hurontario LRT project

The request for proposals stage has closed for teams to submit their bids to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.

Following a fair, open and transparent request for qualifications process, three teams were shortlisted and invited to respond to a request for proposals in August 2017. Two teams – Mobilinx and Trillium Transit Partners – submitted their proposals by today’s deadline.

Over the next several months, submissions will be evaluated and a successful bidder is expected to be announced in early fall 2019. A fairness monitor is observing the entire procurement process.

PAST PROJECT UPDATES

Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to three shortlisted teams to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Hurontario Light Rail Transit project.

A request for qualifications issued in June 2017 shortlisted the top three teams based on their construction, design, operation and maintenance capability, experience, qualified personnel and financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and scope. Teams have been invited to respond to the RFP and will begin preparing proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. Upon evaluating the proposals received, IO and Metrolinx expect to award the contract in 2019.

CONNECTED

The Hurontario LRT means 19 stops and its own dedicated right-of-way – so no pesky traffic to deal with – and it will connect you to the Milton and Lakeshore West GO lines, along with local transit links like MiWay, Brampton Transit, Züm, and Mississauga Transitway at Square One. It’s a launching pad to move you throughout the region, the connection local families need for freedom and choice.

GROWTH

The Hurontario LRT will create a transit grid in the Western GTA by linking the numerous existing east west corridors such as the GO train and GO bus lines, the Mississauga Transitway and countless MiWay and Brampton Transit routes. It will transform Hurontario into a vibrant people-centered corridor connecting communities and empowering growth for the next thirty years.

ENVIRONMENT

Clean, electrically powered light rail vehicles, producing no emissions… not to mention more cars off the road. And did we mention less traffic on the Hurontario corridor? There’s a lot for you and the environment to love.
